Thirteen artists in group exhibition 'Echoes and Horizons' in Hydra Island Greece (22/06/2017)

The group exhibition "Echoes and Horizons", gathering thirteen artists from different cultural origins which are all connected to fine arts studies at the University of Quebec in Trois-Rivières (UQTR, Canada), has been presented from 12th to 19th of June in the very nice space of the Melina Mercouri Hall (Hydra). The first part of this exhibition was hold in last May at the R3 Gallery of UQTR, and brought together three art students from the postgraduate program in aesthetics of the UQTR, Annie Brien, Philippe Lafontaine, Marie-Hèlène Laverdure and Anthi Daoutaki, newly graduated from the Fine Arts School of Athens, along with professional artists and professors.

By curating a second part of the project here in Hydra, Lorraine Beaulieu, artist and coordinator of the Gallery R3 of UQTR, allowed them a first experience for international diffusion of their artistic production. She has actually set up the whole exhibition project and managed the stay for the artists in Hydra. She has worked in collaboration with Professor France Joyal who encouraged her students for sharing experiences with professional artists within the framework of a teaching mentoring formula.

Among professional artists, were involved Philippe Boissonnet, Jean-François Côté, France Joyal and Guylaine Champoux, all teaching arts in the Department of philosophy and arts of the UQTR. As well, were presented Stella Bolonaki, artist and Professor at the Fine Arts School in Athens, Lorraine Beaulieu, curator of the exhibition, as well as Jia Qi Wu (Canada/China) and Ahad Moslemi (Canada/Iran), both already graduated in arts from the UQTR,) and Alice Mestrimer from the Instituto Universitario d’Arte di Venezia (Italy). The meeting of all this group through an art project facilitated connections and professional contacts for future projects.

This exhibition to Melina-Mercouri Hall has attracted more than 650 visitors coming to Hydra from all around the word, and represent a prominent part of the UQTR efforts in developing a postgraduate program in arts that gives an international outreach.

Let’s emphasize that the instigators of the project, Lorraine Beaulieu and France Joyal, have enabled through their commitment and their generosity the sharing of some artistic echoes in order to encourage exploration of new horizons between established and emerging artists from various cultures.
